Echezeaux is one of the largest Grand Cru vineyards in the region, boasting several top-level producers with plots of land on their property. The 2005 Echezeaux Grand Cru has full-bodied, attractive, well-pronounced aromas of black truffle, red berries, herbs, and campfire smoke - aromas that you want to inhale constantly! On the palate, this is bright Echezeaux, medium full-bodied, with lots of spice. Very appetizing!

Mathilde and Hubert are at the helm of the company under the leadership of their father Etienne Grivot, and it seems to be one of the most successful transitions from one generation to the next in all of Burgundy. This generation has a domaine that has truly broken into the upper echelon of Vosne-Romanee, with wines that consistently delight both at various dinners and blind tastings. That Grivot produces some of the best wines in the region is undeniable. It is worth noting that in 2008, Domaine Jean Grivot began to evolve towards softer extraction and greater transparency. Thanks to the dense planting of old vines (the average age of the vines is 45-50 years) with organic farming, grape yields are low, producing a complex red Burgundy worthy of a place in any cellar. Domaine Jean Grivot adheres to biodynamic practices, working in harmony with the environment. The wines are bottled unfiltered according to the lunar movements. Their grand cru vineyards include Richebourg, Clos de Vougeot, and Échezeaux.

This concentrated beauty remains very primary with an herbal top note adding lift to the notably ripe and ultra-spicy black fruit and earth suffused aromas. There is seriously good density to the impressively scaled and imposing big-bodied flavors that brim with dry extract on the palate coating, powerful and powerful finish that goes on and on. This is a very structured wine that is clearly built for the very long haul and I wouldn't recommend touching a bottle for at least another decade. In sum, this offers stunning potential but in a package that is still years away from being ready. Tasted twice in the last few years with pretty consistent results.

Deep ruby-red. Knockout brooding nose offers dark fruits, smoke, leather and musky Cuban tobacco. Wonderfully silky and thick on entry, then impressively dense without any heaviness in the middle palate. Hugely concentrated wine with superb sucrosite This spreads out to saturate the entire palate with black raspberry fruit and subtle earth tones. Can't quite match the Suchots for delicacy but this boasts outstanding breadth and class. A great example of Echezeaux.

Purity and elegance are the hallmarks of this silky red. Black currant, violet, plum and mineral notes convene on the palate, as the supple texture gives way to beefy tannins. Be patient, this is just a baby. Best from 2015 through 2036.
