Philippe Colin Bourgogne Chardonnay 2022

Vendor code : 1361

Philippe Colin's style emphasizes elegance and finesse rather than heaviness and power. Based in Chassagne-Montrachet, Philippe Colin is a strong advocate for terroir. "I work a lot with soils," he says. "Each terroir, each plot is very different. We have six or seven Premier Crus in Chassagne-Montrachet in our family, and it's very important to identify them all. I'm always looking for terroirs that we don't already have. It is crucial to understand all the terroirs of Chassagne-Montrachet."

Philippe Colin Bourgogne Chardonnay 2022 is harvested from two vineyards located in Chassagne-Montrachet and Santenay. One senses that a lot of attention has been paid to this wine, just like the wines from the communes. Bright and fresh, with aromas and flavours of ripe fruit, this popular Chardonnay is beautifully balanced. It is exceptionally elegant, and most importantly, it is already a pleasure to drink. The aftertaste has hints of vanilla and toffee that are supported by solid minerality.

Philippe Colin is a winery located in the Chassagne-Montrachet appellation of Burgundy, founded in 2004. The domaine produces a variety of wines from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Initially, Philippe Colin produced around 30 wines, but after deciding to reduce production, the range now includes eight white wines and three red wines. The white wines, made from 100% Chardonnay, include Bourgogne Chardonnay, sourced from two vineyards in Chassagne-Montrachet and Santenay, and Chassagne-Montrachet, which comes from four vineyards situated on limestone and chalky clay, just below the Premier Cru slopes. Other notable white wines include Saint-Aubin Les Combes Premier Cru, Chassagne-Montrachet Les Chaumées Clos Saint-Abdon Premier Cru, Chassagne-Montrachet Les Chenevottes Premier Cru, Chassagne-Montrachet En Remilly Premier Cru, Puligny-Montrachet Les Demoiselles, and Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru. The red wines, made from Pinot Noir, include Bourgogne Pinot Noir, which is sourced from two vineyards in Chassagne-Montrachet and Maranges, Santenay Clos de Saint-Jean, a single-vineyard village wine, and Chassagne-Montrachet Champs de Morjots, a single-vineyard wine from a plot just below the Chassagne-Montrachet Morgeot Premier Cru. Originally part of Domaine Colin-Deléger, which was owned by Philippe Colin's parents, the estate was divided between Philippe and his brother Bruno upon their parents' retirement. In 2014, Philippe expanded his operations by acquiring the Topiary Wine Estate in the Franschhoek Valley of South Africa's Western Cape, where he cultivates Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Chardonnay, with harvests occurring in February. In 2021, Philippe passed two-thirds of his estate vineyards to his son, Simon, who now produces wine under his own label. Philippe retained five hectares (12 acres), mostly rented from family members, and in 2022, the estate's offices and storage were relocated to a former family home. These changes allowed Philippe to focus more on his South African venture.
