Domaine Fourrier Bourgogne Rouge 2022

Vendor code : 1532

Domaine Fourrier began in the 1930s–40s through the union of the Pernot and Fourrier families, bringing together parcels in Griotte-Chambertin and Clos Saint-Jacques. Early wines under the Pernot-Fourrier label were well received. A turning point came in the 1990s when Jean-Marie Fourrier, trained by Henri Jayer, took over. With lower yields and modernized facilities, he transformed the domaine into a key producer in Gevrey-Chambertin.

The ancient Pinot Noir clones are an invaluable genetic pool for Domaine Fourrier, shaping the distinctive character of its wines. Following the advice of his mentors, Jean-Marie minimised intervention in the production process. Over the past twenty years, Domaine Fourrier has undergone a radical transformation, and its wines have become rare treasures with superstar status. Domaine Fourrier Bourgogne Rouge 2022 is intended to give consumers the opportunity to experience the estate’s wines at a more accessible price. With aromas of ripe cherries, candied fruit, and plums, this medium-bodied wine offers powdery tannins and an open, expressive character.

Domaine Fourrier traces its origins to the 1930s and 40s, when the union of the Pernot and Fourrier families brought together valuable vineyard holdings, including parcels in Griotte-Chambertin and Clos Saint-Jacques. Initially known as Pernot-Fourrier, the wines of that era were well-regarded, with Clive Coates recalling them fondly. After the passing of Fernand Pernot in 1981, his nephew Jean-Claude Fourrier assumed control, though his tenure saw a decline in the estate’s reputation. A dramatic revival began in the mid-1990s under Jean-Marie Fourrier, who had worked alongside his father since 1989 and was mentored by the legendary Henri Jayer. With a focus on lower yields, modernized equipment, and extensive cellar renovations, Jean-Marie transformed Domaine Fourrier into a benchmark producer in Gevrey-Chambertin, now recognized for a consistently strong and expressive portfolio of wines.
