La Rioja Alta continues to be one of the benchmarks for traditionally produced Rioja wine. It is unusual for a great bodega of Rioja to own vineyards, but La Rioja Alta owns 360ha. Tempranillo dominates the plantings, complemented by a small proportion of Garnacha and Graciano vines.
Garnacha is an important component in Viña Ardanza Reserva, where the variety makes up 20% of the blend. The wine has a developed aroma of sweet spices, cherries in liquor, and dried herbs. The palate is velvety yet rich, with prominent tannins and a pleasant chalky feel, smooth and elegant, terribly balanced. There is a general feeling of harmony here, which one cannot, does not like.
