Smith Haut Lafitte 2022 Blanc is a blend of 90% Sauvignon Blanc, 5% Semillon and 5% Sauvignon Gris. The aroma strikes bright hints of menthol, lemon pie, and touches of smoke, sea spray, and wet pebbles. Full-bodied, and fluttering with energetic citrus and mineral flavors, it is charged with fantastic tension, culminating in a long and steely finish. Chateau Smith Haut-Lafitte has been certified organic in 2019. For several years, the Haut-Lafitte team faced a significant decrease in yields, but today, the situation has improved. In addition to using organic methods, cover crops have been introduced and many biodynamic methods are used, medicinal herbs to prevent grape diseases. The vineyards are in a privileged location, surrounded by forests, orchards, and bee hives, which in turn favor biodiversity. Technical changes have also been made to adapt to the warmer climate, including earlier grape harvesting. Chateau Smith Haut-Lafitte winemaking has also changed, with red wines undergoing cool but long maceration and white wines undergoing whole-cluster pressing using an inert press. These changes have given Haut-Lafitte wines a new structural elegance and vigor. It's worth noting that barrels are made in Chateau Smith Haut-Lafitte's cooperage workshop, which favors Tronçais and Jupilles woods for red wines and Loches for whites, adding tension. At Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte, they strive to keep up with the latest technology. In 2009, they were among the first to use the Oenoview satellite imagery system, which helped them find the perfect moment to start harvesting from the vineyards. Yohan Castaing:"It appears likely that the 2022 Smith Haut Lafitte Blanc will overtake its 2019 counterpart as one of the most successful white wines this estate has produced to date, something that's especially impressive in the context of the vintage. Exhibiting aromas of linden, menthol, crisp orchard fruit and smoke, it’s medium to full-bodied, fleshy and crystalline, with racy acids and an unctuos mid-palate. Chalky structuring dry extract makes its presence felt on the long, mineral finish. This is a blend of 90% Sauvignon Blanc, 5% Sémillon and 5% Sauvignon Gris".

The flagship 2022 Château Smith Haut Lafitte Blanc is a normal blend of 90% Sauvignon Blanc and 5% each of Sauvignon Gris and Sémillon. Aged in 55% new French oak, it shines in the vintage and brings plenty of classic richness and depth while at the same time staying pure, clean, and balanced. Honeyed lemon, orange blossom, white flowers, and crushed stone all define the aromatics, and it has a beautiful mouthfeel that certainly brings the richness and depth of the vintage.
