Chateau Tour Saint Christophe is a mid-18th century chateau located in Saint-Emilion that has been awarded Grand Cru Classe status. This chateau covers an area of 11 hectares on the clay and limestone hills of Saint-Emilion and has beautiful ancient dry-stone terraces, hand-restored during the complete renovation of the estate. Chateau Tour Saint Christophe is renowned for its classic Merlot-based Bordeaux wines, which offer excellent value for money.
The Tour Saint-Christophe 2022 has very well-defined aromas of dark berries, black fruits, and licorice. On the palate, there is a concentration, an intent to perform at the highest level that shows through in the glass. The flavour is silky smooth, with a fine line of acidity, and layers of red cherry and blueberry, leading to a detailed long finish. The 2022 Chateau Tour Saint Christophe has a promising future.
Chateau Tour Saint Christophe, like many other Bordeaux châteaux, takes its name from the location of the vineyard, which is located in the commune of Saint Christophe des Bardes and was awarded Grand Cru Classe status in 2022. Its immediate neighbors are Château Troplong Mondot and Château Barde-Haut. The 20-hectare Chateau Tour Saint Christophe vineyard in Saint-Emilion has a terroir of clay and limestone soils, planted with 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. The old vineyard plots have a planting density of 6,500 vines per hectare, while in the new plots, this density increases to 7,500 vines per hectare, with 8,000 vines per hectare for Cabernet Franc. A great deal of work is required to produce the Tour Saint Christophe, as the wine is made using micro-vinification techniques. For the production of Grand Vin, the grapes are fermented with whole berries. On average, 50% of the wine is vinified using micro-vinification techniques, which means that half of the wine is vinified in 60% new French oak barrels. Malolactic fermentation takes place in the barrels. The wine is then aged in 60% new French oak barrels for an average of 18 months before being bottled. Tour Saint Christophe produces around 100,000 bottles a year. Michel Rolland advises on winemaking. A second wine, Les Terrasses de Tour Saint Christophe, undergoes the vinification process in concrete tanks. The average production of Tour Saint Christophe is around 4,000 cases of wine per year. Since 2018, the white wine Château Tour Saint Christophe Angela has also been produced. It is named after the owner's wife and is made exclusively from Sauvignon Blanc. It undergoes aging with a mix of clay amphorae and new French oak barrels. Currently, only about 500 bottles are produced each year. Chateau Tour Saint Christophe is considered one of the best value-for-money wines in the Bordeaux region according to the team at Lambier Wines.
