The 2022 Troplong Mondot is one of the Right Bank's best wines in this vintage. In the glass, it opens with deep aromas of berries, orange zest, and red cherry, mixed with hints of licorice and exotic spices. This is a full-bodied, deep, and multi-layered Troplong Mondot, with a satiny attack moving into a bright, polished middle and finishing with a long, ringing finish. The 2022 Troplong Mondot exceeds even the highest expectations.

Chateau Troplong Mondot is made up of limestone and clay soils that do the job of holding moisture in the winter. In the center of Troplong Mondot are clay soils with large stones and flint, so you get all this bounty, lots of strength, and structure. Then Chateau Troplong Mondot has margins where the soil is limestone. The limestone and the earlier harvest give minerality as well as silkiness to the tannins. Chateau Troplong Mondot produces a very rounded and deep wine, but also very dynamic. Chateau Troplong Mondot has a rich and colorful history in Saint-Emilion, dating back to the 17th century. The 37-hectare vineyard is planted with 73% Merlot, 16% Cabernet Franc and 11% Cabernet Sauvignon. Located on the plateau and slopes of St Emilion, Troplong Mondot occupies a magnificent terroir overlooking the entire village. The average age of the vines is around 30 years, with some older vines approaching a century old. The oldest vines were planted in 1926. There are other old vines at Chateau Troplong Mondot, planted in 1947 and 1948. Due to its unique, cooler hilltop terroir with significant clay deposits, Troplong Mondot is often one of the last vineyards in St Emilion to complete harvest. Outstanding vintages of Château Troplong Mondot include 2022, 2021, 2020, 2019, 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2012, 2010, 2009, 2009, 2008, 2005, 2000, 1998, 1990 and 1989.

Wine Advocate
William Kelley: "A wine that transcended both my lofty expectations and anything produced at this address in the last 50 years, the 2022 Troplong Mondot realizes all the potential of this striking terroir. Unwinding in the glass with aromas of dark berries, cherries, exotic spices, bay leaf and orange zest, it's full-bodied, deep and multidimensional, with incredible concentration without weight, supple tannins and a seamless, complete profile, concluding with a long, saline finish. All the work of the last few years in the vineyards and winery makes itself felt, as Troplong Mondot's vineyards took the hot, dry conditions in their stride, and the quality of the fruit that they produced has been preserved by a gentle vinification and a discreet élevage, featuring only 55% new oak and some 20% of the volume in large foudres."

"A supremely excellent Troplong in 2022 that has the hallmarks of a concentrated vintage but delivered with ultimate poise and precision. A joy to taste and once again one of my favourites. Sharp, sleek, sour, bright and cool - I love the instant freshness and drinkability of this, tannins are fresh and detailed with both a plush and cool texture underpinned by layers of flavour with depth and concentration. Clearly muscular but pixelated - it’s not tense, lean or austere but generous, charming and playful. Supple and succulent, still with ripe strawberry, cherry and raspberry fruit, a mix of bright red and black berries with wet stone, liquorice, dark chocolate and graphite giving the terroir. Silky, balanced acidity and overall so well controlled and presented. 3.5pH. Ageing 50% new oak, reduced by 5% plus 21% in 20hl foudre, 24% one wine barrels" - Georgina Hindle.

"Clearly the finest wine to date under the new team and direction here, the 2022 Château Troplong Mondot reveals a vivid purple hue as well as sensational notes of black raspberries, cassis, acacia flowers, and graphite, with a beautiful underpinning of chalky minerality. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has flawless balance, ultra-fine tannins, no hard edges, and a great, great finish. The purity, precision, and just sheer class are something to behold." - Jeb Dunnuck
