Champagne Pierre Peters L'Etonnant Monsieur Victor Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru 2012

Vendor code : 1287

Rodolphe Peters brilliantly runs the renowned Champagne house Pierre Peters, which spans 19 hectares in Mesnil-sur-Oger, where Chardonnay reveals itself in its purest and most chalk-infused form. Vinification takes place in stainless steel, ensuring the wines are never overly austere. Today, Peters slightly delays the release of his flagship wines, Les Chétillons and Montjolys, extending their aging by six months ‘sur lattes,’ followed by an additional year on cork. Buyers should note that Pierre Peters Champagne's excellence is evident even in the serious entry-level wines, making the purchase of the entire range highly justifiable.

L'Etonnant Monsieur Victor (2012 base) is yet another interesting wine in Rodolphe Peters' range. For this cuvee, Peters blends his finest 2012 Chétillons with the 2011 Réserve Oubliee and ages the wine on cork. Dense, powerful, and full of energy, the 2012 Champagne L'Etonnant Monsieur Victor makes a bold statement. Apricot, wildflowers, chamomile, hazelnut, and orange zest create a beautifully resonant and expressive Champagne that hits all the right notes. The 2012 vintage is masculine and imposing, with a strong character. Disgorged: December 2018. Recommended drinking window: 2020 to 2035.

L'Etonnant Monsieur Victor is, above all, a family project. This Champagne diverges from the current trend of single-vintage wines from single vineyards and is crafted according to the time-honored tradition of multi-vintage blends. Rodolphe Péters enlisted the talent and passion of his son to personalize the labels with his drawings, giving each bottle a truly unique character. Rodolphe Péters explains: ‘In an effort to create the finest multi-vintage Champagne possible, we carefully selected the best wines from our Perpetual Reserve, dating back to 1988 (wines stored in stainless steel vats, concrete, and large barrels), as well as the best wines from the most recent vintage from the Chétillon terroir. We then blended them in nearly equal proportions before bottling. The older wines enrich the younger ones, which in turn contribute their character and freshness.’ L'Etonnant Monsieur Victor is aged for 6 years on natural cork in the cellars. The code associated with each release of these cuvées indicates the artist admired and parodied by Rodolphe and Fabienne's son Victor (e.g., TM - Tim Burton) and the base year of the blend (09 - 2009, 10 - 2010, etc.).
