Bruno Giacosa Barolo Falletto Vigna Le Rocche Riserva 2017

Vendor code : 605

A legendary figure in a region known for producing legendary wines, Bruno Giacosa is a winemaker who has scaled the heights of winemaking excellence. 'When I first met Bruno Giacosa in the early 1990s, he had already delivered a succession of profound wines, many of which have since become legendary,' recalls Robert Parker. 'His Barolos and Barbarescos from 1978, 1982, 1985, 1988, 1989, and 1990 were—and remain—some of the finest expressions of Nebbiolo ever produced. I wrote long ago that if there were one wine producer I would buy year after year without ever tasting first, it would be Bruno Giacosa.

Bruno Giacosa Barolo Riserva Falletto Vigna Le Rocche 2017 is crafted from the oldest vines in the Falletto cru. This wine showcases all the signature traits of Serralunga d'Alba, with its massive structure, density, and the long aging potential characteristic of Nebbiolo from this village. The flavor is dynamic and evolving, with each swirl of the glass revealing new layers of fruit, blackberry, smoke, spices, and minerals. Drink between 2025 and 2050.

In the world of winemaking, there is a figure who is hailed as one of the greatest producers of traditional Barbaresco and Barolo style wines - Bruno Giacosa. His name is held in deep respect due to his long experience and exceptional craftsmanship. From a very young age, starting at the age of 13-14, this legendary winemaker laboured in the vineyards, developing a unique sense for the best cru plots in Barbaresco and Barolo. Bruno Giacosa showed a passion for winemaking while his understanding and mastery of point zones of excellence, especially in Barbaresco and Barolo, grew with him. Striving to realize his vision of a territory-specific Nebbiolo, he was one of the first to realize the potential of cru in winemaking. For example, in 1964 he created a single vineyard wine from Santo Stefano in Neiva, Barbaresco. An interesting detail is that for a long time, despite his importance, Bruno Giacosa did not own his own vineyards. His irony was that despite not having his own hectares, he produced outstanding wines by buying fruit from various places including Neiva (Gallina and Basarin). In 2019, continuing his tradition, outstanding wines such as the Bruno Giacosa Barbaresco Rabajà and Asili, as well as the Barolo Falletto Vigna Le Rocche white labeled Barolo Falletto Vigna Le Rocche were released. However, the red Barolo Riserva Falletto Falletto Vigna Le Rocche was not produced that year. This wine was available in 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2017, and a new Riserva is expected to be released in 2020 and 2022. The owners of the winery express optimism about the 2022 vintage, which adds excitement to the world of winemaking.

This year's top-end release from Bruno Giacosa is the 2017 Barolo Riserva Falletto Vigna Le Rocche (in the red label). Bottled in 2019, the wine stands apart thanks to a hot and dry growing season that Bruna Giacosa is very excited about. In fact, she prefers 2017 to 2015, although the two vintages do share similarities. This wine is very open-knit, and it reveals dark concentration in the form of ripe blackberry, candied cherry and spice. The tannins show a loose, granular quality that adds considerably to the textural impact of this Riserva.
