Larmandier-Bernier - Top 5 Champagne Houses.

For eight generations, the Larmandier family has contributed to the reputation of Côte de Blanc champagnes. Since the 19th century, the Larmandier family has cultivated vineyards in the premier and grand cru Côtes de Blanc. Chalk rock is the cornerstone of these great terroirs and the source of the elegant mineral quality of Larmandier-Bernier Champagne wines.

The house endeavors to make wines that express their terroir without any gimmicks, believing that great Champagne, like any great wine, begins its life in the vineyard. The grape naturally carries all the qualities of authenticity that no human being can come up with.

Larmandier-Bernier is fortunate enough to work with some very beautiful terroirs, so it would be a shame not to ‘bring them to your glass’. To achieve this, the estate has abandoned its usual methods in favor of the much more enjoyable path of judicious viticulture.

This choice, of a trusting nature, was made very early on, long before the current realization. Inspiration came from Pierre's very strong desire to make great wines and from Sophie's lifestyle (respect for the environment and healthy food), which together sounded self-evident: the couple thus decided to follow a biodynamic path that was at odds with the way things worked in Champagne at the time.

Larmandier-Bernier uses wild yeasts and long aging on lees (11 months) in barrels and wooden vats. The wines are not filtered. To maintain control of the harvest, grapes are never purchased.

By buying vineyards in the best cru, Larmandier-Bernier continues to write its future.
