Echezeaux is one of the largest Grand Cru vineyards in the region, which boasts several top-level producers with plots on their land. The 2013 Echezeaux Grand Cru has an inviting, well-defined aroma with strawberry jam, cherries, herbs de Provence, and oak in disguise - a flavor that you want to inhale all the time! On the palate, this is a compact Echezeaux, of medium body, which should repay for long-term storage in the cellar. Drink: 2019 - 2038.

Mathilde and Hubert are at the helm of the company under the leadership of their father Etienne Grivot, and it seems to be one of the most successful transitions from one generation to the next in all of Burgundy. This generation has a domaine that has truly broken into the upper echelon of Vosne-Romanee, with wines that consistently delight both at various dinners and blind tastings. That Grivot produces some of the best wines in the region is undeniable. It is worth noting that in 2008, Domaine Jean Grivot began to evolve towards softer extraction and greater transparency. Thanks to the dense planting of old vines (the average age of the vines is 45-50 years) with organic farming, grape yields are low, producing a complex red Burgundy worthy of a place in any cellar. Domaine Jean Grivot adheres to biodynamic practices, working in harmony with the environment. The wines are bottled unfiltered according to the lunar movements. Their grand cru vineyards include Richebourg, Clos de Vougeot, and Échezeaux.

This wine is very young, still with layers of wood. It is going to be a structured, dense and packed with a strong mineral texture. To contrast, generous red plum fruits and intense acidity are ready to convey a deep, rich character. (12/2015)

Burghound
A background application of wood is sufficiently subtle to allow the notably spicy and ripe yet quite cool aromas of both red and black pinot fruit, herbal tea and floral elements to shine. There is excellent volume to the intense and tautly muscular middle weight plus flavors that culminate in an explosively long, mouth coating and moderately austere finale where a hint of bitter cherry arises. Grivot is one of few domaines where their Ech is easily a match for their Clos de Vougeot in terms of size, weight and power and overall this is potentially terrific. (1/2016)

Vinous
Bright, dark red. Complex, soil-driven scents of raspberry, dried flowers, mint, porcini and truffley underbrush. At once silky and taut, displaying superb inner-mouth perfume and salinity. Sensual and totally filled in, delivering a perfect balance of seductiveness and tension thanks to its resonant mineral energy. Made mostly from vines in Les Cruots, with a bit of higher-altitude Rouge du Dessus in the blend. Very demonstrative today, with dark raspberry and meat flavors sexed up by Oriental spices. Grivot describes Echézeaux as "a caress" but this wine also possesses terrific force. (3/2016)
