Champagne Françoise Bedel et Fils' L'Âme de la Terre Extra Brut 2011 is an iconic vintage Champagne that reflects the estate's commitment to biodynamic viticulture and the important role of Pinot Meunier in the Marne Valley. The cuvée is composed primarily of Pinot Meunier, along with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, grown on clay-limestone soils from vines aged 30 to 60 years. Vinification includes natural fermentation with wild yeasts: 15% of the wine ferments in oak barrels, while the remaining 85% ferments in enamelled tanks. Aging on lees (sur latte) continues for 10 years before release, giving the Champagne its richness and versatility. The dosage is 4.5 g/litre, placing it in the Extra Brut category. L'Âme de la Terre 2011 is characterized by a rich, creamy texture, dried fruits, sweet spices, and light oxidative nuances. Long aging on lees develops toasty and brioche notes, balanced by bright acidity and a long, harmonious finish. This Champagne reveals the unique terroir of Crouttes-sur-Marne and the craftsmanship of Françoise Bedel et Fils.

Champagne Françoise Bedel is gaining attention today. Inspired by a visit with Jean-Pierre Fleury and following the lead of other early adopters, Françoise Bedel began transitioning to biodynamics in 1996—back when the concept was still met with skepticism and long before discussions about cow horns became fashionable. At the same time, Pinot Meunier has recently surged in popularity, a trend that may have a fleeting quality, but there’s no denying that Françoise crafts exceptional Meunier-based Champagnes. Now, her son, Vincent Deseaubeau, continues the tradition, managing the estate under her watchful guidance.
