Today, Domaine Bruno Clair cultivates some of the finest vineyards in the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits. The scale of their holdings is impressive: they include Bonnes Mares, Clos de Bèze, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint Jacques and Petite Chapelle, Morey-Saint-Denis ‘En la rue de Vergy’, Corton-Charlemagne, among many others. This is a landmark Burgundy domaine.
Domaine Bruno Clair Morey-Saint-Denis Rouge En la Rue de Vergy 2022 comes from a 0.5416-hectare plot planted in 1980, set at 320m altitude on limestone soils with a subsoil of Premeaux limestone and white oolites. Facing south-east, the Pinot Noir benefits from 10–20% whole bunch fermentation and 10–15 days maceration in wooden vats. The wine matures for 18–20 months in oak barrels, about 30% new. This Morey-Saint-Denis shows a ruby red colour with notes of cassis, sweet cherries and vine smoke, complemented by hints of peony and spice. It’s a powerful, complex wine that highlights the terroir of En la Rue de Vergy.
Situated in Marsannay-la-Côte, Domaine Bruno Clair is a respected Burgundy estate cherished by collectors, professionals, and newcomers to wine alike. Now guided by the family’s seventh generation, the domaine began with vineyards in Marsannay, Fixin, Morey-Saint-Denis, and Savigny-lès-Beaune. Over time, it expanded to include notable sites from Domaine Clair-Daü, the original estate of Joseph and Bernard Clair. These additions brought prized vineyards in Gevrey-Chambertin and Vosne-Romanée, as well as grand crus like Bonnes-Mares, Clos de Bèze, and Corton-Charlemagne (leased since 1993), plus the celebrated premier cru Clos Saint Jacques. Though these parcels were incorporated into Domaine Bruno Clair in 1986, the family had secured them back in the 1950s. In 2010, Bruno’s eldest son, Edouard, joined the domaine, with his siblings Arthur and Margaux coming on board eight years later. Edouard mainly oversees vineyard and winemaking operations, Arthur manages the cellar and also contributes to vinification, while Margaux handles logistics and is actively involved in vineyard tasks. The wines from this modest, family-run estate are praised for their vibrant fruit, freshness, impressive length, and excellent aging capacity.
