Domaine Carrette is a family-run estate in Vergisson, near the Rock of Solutré, with 14 hectares of vines across Pouilly-Fuissé and Saint-Véran. Founded in 1980 by Henri Carrette, the domaine is now led by his grandson Hervé and his oenologist wife, Natalie. Winemaking combines traditional methods with precise technical input. The wines ferment on native yeasts, undergo full malolactic fermentation, and age on lees. Cuvées like Milly-Lamartine, Les Crays and Les Mures reflect their distinct terroirs and the thoughtful, hands-on approach of the family.
Domaine Carrette Macon Milly-Lamartine 2023 comes from organically certified plots in Milly-Lamartine (1.69 ha) and Berzé-la-Ville (1.14 ha), with vines planted between 1987 and 2009 on marl and clay-limestone soils. The vineyards lie on steep slopes at 325–415 meters altitude, with exposures to the north, east, and west. Fermentation was spontaneous with indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless steel, followed by complete malolactic fermentation and nine months of aging on full lees. The final blend, equal parts from both sites, was assembled in June 2024. Despite the hot summer, the wine retains beautiful freshness, a concentrated texture, and expressive aromas of citrus zest and white peach. 20,351 bottles were produced.
The 2023 vintage of Macon Milly-Lamartine was marked by higher temperatures than 2022, especially in spring, early summer, and early September. Harvest began on September 7 during a heatwave and ended on the 21st under milder conditions. Rainfall was regular and sufficient, though it increased disease pressure. No weather damage occurred, and the harvest was both abundant and healthy, with excellent ripeness. The wines follow the style of 2022: generous, approachable, with low acidity and strong aging potential for the finest cuvées. The village name “Milly” was officially joined with “Lamartine” in 1902, in honor of Alphonse de Lamartine, the celebrated 19th-century French Romantic poet who spent part of his childhood there.
