Domaine Carrette Pouilly-Fuisse 1er Cru Pouilly 2023

Vendor code : 1743

Nestled beneath the limestone cliffs of Vergisson, Domaine Carrette has become a quiet force of character and terroir. Today, it is run by Herve Carrette and his wife Nathalie — a vigneron and an oenologist — who work in quiet harmony with the land. These wines are not crafted, but grown. Jurassic marl, native yeasts, and extended lees aging shape the domaine’s style: restrained, layered, and deeply rooted in its place. In every bottle, there is tension, clarity, and the breath of ancient Burgundian stone.

This wine comes from a 0.92-hectare east-facing plot at 315 to 340 meters altitude, planted between 1976 and 2017 on lightly stony Jurassic marl. Now in its second year of organic conversion, the wine is fermented with native yeasts in traditional 228-liter Burgundian barrels, including 20% new oak and 15% one-year-old barrels. Full malolactic fermentation and 11 months of lees aging in barrel are followed by six additional months on fine lees after blending in stainless steel. A glint of gold dances in the glass, like late sunlight on old stone. The first scent stirs memories of ripe orchard fruit—peach and apricot warmed by the sun—wrapped in a whisper of soft spice. On the palate, it unfolds with slow intensity: rich, silky, almost weightless, before a fresh breeze lifts it into a lingering, graceful finish. Bottled on January 21, 2025, the production totals 4,873 bottles, 110 magnums, and 34 jeroboams.

The 2023 vintage of Domaine Carrette Pouilly-Fuissé Premier Cru “Pouilly” was marked by even warmer conditions than 2022, particularly in spring, early summer, and early September. Harvest began on September 7 under intense heat and ended on the 21st in more temperate weather. Rainfall was steady and sufficient for vine growth but increased disease pressure. The wine style is similar to 2022: generous and appealing, with low acidity and good aging potential in the best cuvées. This Premier Cru was established in 2020 through the unification of several renowned lieux-dits, including Au Clos and Aux Morlays. The parcel became part of the domaine in 2022.
