Hervé Bizeul started small — in a garage, using second-hand barrels from DRC and Château l’Angélus — but the ambition was always big. Today, his winery may be full of gleaming stainless steel tanks, but he’s the first to say: tech alone doesn’t make great wine. “It’s like money at a poker table,” he shrugs. “You need it to play, but it won’t make you win.”
La Petite Siberie 2016 is Grenache turned all the way up. Grown on a chilly, windswept site (hence the name), these old bush vines deliver serious concentration and power. It’s 80% Grenache with a hit of Syrah and Mourvèdre, aged for 16 months in all-new oak. What you get is big, bold, and unapologetically rich: coconut oil, vanilla, black cherry, cocoa — and a finish that goes on and on. It’s lush, layered, and totally seductive. Not for fans of delicate reds — this one’s for those who appreciate passionate, full-throttle wines with real temperament. A Roussillon showstopper.
La Petite Sibérie 2016 comes from a tiny, windswept parcel of old bush-vine Grenache noir planted on iron-rich clay-limestone soils, layered with shale and mica-schist. Facing east-west and exposed to fierce northwest winds over 200 days a year, this extreme terroir gives the wine its remarkable concentration and mineral tension. Everything in the vineyard is done by hand — from late pruning to shoot thinning and bunch equalising — with a clear focus on reaching perfect phenolic ripeness while preserving the freshness of the fruit. Grapes are harvested by hand, kept cool in refrigerated trucks, and undergo 20 days of gentle maceration with daily cap-punching. The wine is aged on lees in new oak barrels without added sulfur until malolactic fermentation finishes. A small portion (5–7%) of Syrah or Mourvèdre is added, depending on the vintage. Bottled unfined and unfiltered, this is a deeply expressive wine that evolves beautifully in the glass, revealing layer after layer over several hours. Dense yet refined, with powerful tannins, mineral grip, and silky length, it has the structure to improve for a decade and the soul to last for thirty years.

Named for the chilly nature of the terroir, the 2016 la Petite Sibérie is 80% Grenache, with 10% each Syrah and Mourvèdre. Aged 16 months in 100% new barriques, it smells of coconut oil and vanilla, ironically giving it an almost tropical feel. That said, once it's in the mouth, it's more impressive, with layers of ripe fruit seamlessly entwined with vanilla and bourbon, ample weight and presence on the palate, a rich, velvety mouthfeel and a lingering finish.
