Pinot Noir Vrede hails from low-powered, stony, clay-rich shale soils. With a flawless accent in the aroma, Pinot Noir Vrede has red fruits and a fragrant-floral undertone with soft orange peel and hints of oak lying under the fruit. On the palate, the heart of Pinot Noir is elegantly and truthfully revealed. The structure is seductively light. The wine is aged for 11 months in Burgundy barrels, 28% of which are first-used barrels.

Influenced by the Atlantic Ocean, Hemel-en-Aarde, South Africa, is considered an exceptional cool-climate wine region, a characteristic reflected in the style of Storm Wines. Hannes Storm discovered plots in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley and planted them with Pinot Noir. Hannes and his wife, Natalia Storm, produce wines on the valley’s poor, stony, clay soils, composed of decomposed granite and shale. Storm Wines is the only winery in the valley to produce Pinot Noir under all three of the region’s appellations. With small production, minimal cellar intervention, and a terroir-driven philosophy, their wines express unique personality and character.

Wine Advocate
Anthony Mueller: "With an impeccable focus on the nose, the 2017 Pinot Noir Vrede is red-fruited and aromatically floral with soft orange rind and oak tones layered underneath the fruit. The palate reveals the heart of Pinot Noir in an elegant and true manner. The structure is immaculate, yet seductively light. Medium-bodied the finish is cherried with a feral wildness and strawberry-kissed focus that is really amazing. The wine is still tight and is built for aging, packing a punch wrapped in a glove of silk. 7,500 bottles of Pinot aged for 11 months in Burgundy barrels, 28% being first use barrels".
