Ruinart is the world's oldest Champagne house. Ruinart is often called the "chardonnay house" for its pre-eminence of Chardonnay over Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. Ruinart's style is characterized by an "elegant, full and generous taste," according to Michael Edwards, author of "The Finest Wines of Champagne."
The 'R' de Ruinart NV contains 40% Chardonnay minimum, with 25% reserve wines. It is aged for around 36 months. Medium-plus intensity nose. Noticeable toasty bread dough with baked pears and almond shavings. This wine smells like you are in a French bakery. On the palate those pear and doughy notes come through but also bring a spice element of cinnamon. Very weighty and mouth-filling with a silky mousse. This Champagne feels like a meal in itself.
