Podere Salicutti is a jewel of Montalcino, combining authenticity, organic farming, and the soulful vision of its founder, Francesco Leanza. A chemical engineer from Sicily turned accidental winemaker, Leanza bought the 11-hectare estate in 1990 after leaving Rome in search of tranquility. From day one, he cultivated organically, becoming the first certified organic estate in Montalcino, later expanding vineyards across Piaggione, Sorgente, and Teatro. His philosophy was simple: “There is no oenology in my wines. Nothing is added, taken away, or corrected. They are a natural result.”
In 2015, Munich-based restaurateurs Felix and Sabine Eichbauer, longtime admirers of Salicutti, acquired the estate. They respected Leanza’s legacy while introducing subtle refinements and a new winery, guiding the estate toward biodynamic certification (achieved in 2022). Their approach maintains Salicutti’s identity: expressive Sangiovese wines full of character, sometimes unconventional, always deeply connected to their terroir.
The estate’s flagship is the Brunello di Montalcino Piaggione, a blend of fruit from Piaggione and Teatro, alongside single-cru bottlings Sorgente and Teatro Riserva. Each wine reflects its site’s unique soils and microclimate, offering elegance, purity, and complexity that stand among Tuscany’s most captivating expressions of Sangiovese.
Today, Podere Salicutti is celebrated as one of the breakout stars of Brunello, a true collector’s estate for those who value authenticity and terroir.
