The fact that this 48-hectare domaine, renowned for its exceptional appellations and annual production of approximately 200,000 bottles, remains relatively undiscovered is a perplexing enigma for many wine enthusiasts. Domaine Antonin Guyon is recognized for its refined and timeless approach, crafting white and red wines that possess a luminous and inviting texture. These wines are characterized by their seamless and velvety tannins, with the subtle incorporation of new oak. As a result, they exude a captivating charm and embody the essence of Burgundy, making them a versatile choice suitable for various occasions that should unquestionably capture the attention of discerning connoisseurs.
This wine has every chance of being one of Antonin Guyon's best wines of 2016. The soil of the Corton Clos du Roy Grand Cru site is clay-limestone. The vines are 50 years old. The Corton Clos du Roy is hand-harvested and subjected to a long vinification in wooden vats. Aging in oak barrels (50% new) and bottling after 18 months. The wine offers aromas of sweet berry fruit, licorice, warm spices, rose petals, and loamy soil. Full-bodied, lively, and concentrated, it is deep but fine-bodied, with a linear, dense profile.
By Dominique Guyon's admission, Burgundy is almost a mystical region, difficult to understand even for many specialists. In 1970, when the Domaine passed from father to son, Dominique Guyon decided to expand the farm's boundaries. Over the next few years, he acquired about 350 different plots totaling 22 hectares. Moreover, many of them still have 50-year-old vines. In total, the Guyon family owns 48 hectares of scattered vineyards. Domaine Antonin Guyon includes several prestigious Premier Cru vineyards in the communes of Pernand-Vergelesses (Sous Fretille, Les Fichots and Les Vergelesses), Meursault (Les Charmes), Volnay (Clos des Chenes) and Aloxe-Corton (Les Fournieres and Les Vercots), as well as Grand Cru vineyards: Charmes-Chambertin, Corton-Charlemagne, Corton (Clos du Roi, Les Bressandes, Les Renardes, le Corton).
