Ridge Chardonnay hails from a cool, eastern slope on the Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge with low-vigour, stony, clay-rich Bokkeveld shale soil. Storm Ridge Chardonnay is an elegant, refined wine with refreshing acidity, excellent balance, and long, elegant aromas of citrus, nectarine, and ripe pears, which are replaced by mineral tones. The taste is subtle and not overpowered by fruit with a delicate texture.
Influenced by the Atlantic Ocean, Hemel-en-Aarde, South Africa, is considered an exceptional cool-climate wine region, a characteristic reflected in the style of Storm Wines. Hannes Storm discovered plots in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley and planted them with Pinot Noir. Hannes and his wife, Natalia Storm, produce wines on the valley’s poor, stony, clay soils, composed of decomposed granite and shale. Storm Wines is the only winery in the valley to produce Pinot Noir under all three of the region’s appellations. With small production, minimal cellar intervention, and a terroir-driven philosophy, their wines express unique personality and character.
