American wine writer Peter Liem writes of Marc Hebrart: ‘Hebrart's wines have broad appeal. if you like to think about your wines, they’re intellectually engaging enough to satisfy you; on the other hand, if you’re just looking to drink, they’re simply delicious. Overall, the entire range is of consistently high quality, and represents excellent value for the money.
The NV Brut Selection Marc Hebrart is a blend from Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, Avenay-Val-d'Or, and Bisseuil. Aromatic and vibrant, the Brut Selection impresses with its balance and sensuality. Lemon confit, white flowers, apricot, mint, chamomile, and plum meld together in this understated, classy Champagne, ready to enjoy now. Brut Selection was aged for 30 months on the lees, with a dosage of 6 grams per liter.
Since 1997, Jean-Paul Hébrart has overseen the 15-hectare estate, which is planted with 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay. The domaine cultivates 75 parcels across five grand cru villages, including Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, where eight hectares are located, as well as Aÿ, Avize, Oiry, and Chouilly, along with several premier crus. Hébrart prioritizes organic practices where feasible, minimizing the use of synthetic treatments. Each parcel is vinified separately, and malolactic fermentation is blocked for all but two wines: the Coteaux Champenois and the Rive Gauche – Rive Droite, a "Burgundian" style champagne made from Chardonnay from Chouilly and Avize, and Pinot Noir from Aÿ. The estate is known for its excellent quality, particularly in the Brut Sélection, which is offered at very competitive prices. Of the 140,000 bottles produced annually, 80% are exported, with 28% of that reaching the U.S. market.
