Champagne Pierre Peters Cuvee Speciale 'Les Chetillons' Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Brut 2014

Vendor code : 1291

Rodolphe Peters brilliantly runs the renowned Champagne house Pierre Peters, which spans 19 hectares in Mesnil-sur-Oger, where Chardonnay reveals itself in its purest and most chalk-infused form. Vinification takes place in stainless steel, ensuring the wines are never overly austere. Today, Peters slightly delays the release of his flagship wines, Les Chétillons and Montjolys, extending their aging by six months ‘sur lattes,’ followed by an additional year on cork. Buyers should note that Pierre Peters Champagne's excellence is evident even in the serious entry-level wines, making the purchase of the entire range highly justifiable.

Champagne Pierre Péters Les Chétillons Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Brut 2014: Dosage - 3.5-4.5 g/l. Maturation - 6 years. Disgorged in 2021. The power and minerality of the chalky soil are fully showcased in this Champagne, produced since 1971. You can enjoy this vintage now, comparing it to the denser 2013 vintage, which still needs time to evolve. Green apples, ripe citrus, pastry, crushed stone, sea salt, and floral nuances contribute to a hedonistic experience. Long and penetrating, it finishes with a memorable aftertaste. The 2014 vintage was marked by moderate temperatures, frequent rain, and several weeks of intense heat. Overall, Chardonnay shines as the star of this vintage. Each of the three plots of Les Chétillons was vinified separately, with fermentation taking place in stainless steel. It is recommended to drink between 2023 and 2043.

Les Chetillons is a special cuvée named after a prestigious ‘lieu-dit’ in the Grand Cru village of Mesnil-sur-Oger. Pierre Peters owns three plots of old vines (over 45 years old), which were acquired in 1930. Each plot is vinified separately, and the resulting wines are blended to create a single vintage from the same vineyard. This wine exhibits the power and minerality of Mesnil-sur-Oger’s calcium-rich soil. Produced since 1971, the cuvée’s reputation has spread far beyond Champagne. Michael Edwards calls Les Chétillons 'one of the most beautiful stretches of Champagne soil.'

Disgorged in July 2021, Péters's just-released 2014 Brut Blanc de Blancs Cuvée Spéciale Les Chétillons is showing very well, unwinding in the glass with scents of ripe citrus fruits, crisp green and yellow orchard fruit, white flowers and subtle hints of freshly baked bread. Medium to full-bodied, deep and incisive, it's seamless and concentrated, its elegantly fleshy core of fruit underpinned by a racy spine of acidity and animated by a pretty pinpoint mousse; it concludes with a long, mineral finish. Readers will have a lot of fun comparing the 2014 with the more tightly wound 2013 in a decade's time.

The 2014 Cuvée Spéciale Les Chétillons is fabulous. The 2014 is not as obvious as years like 2012 or 2013, but it presents a youthfully austere, classic personality that is absolutely beguiling. Readers will have to be patient here. There is certainly a lot to look forward to. The 2014 Les Chétillons is a Blanc de Blancs that sizzles with Mesnil tension and energy. Dosage is 3.5-4.5 grams per liter. Disgorged: May, 2021.
