We offer a rare opportunity to discover Champagne Chartogne-Taillet Sainte Anne Brut (base 2022).
Sainte Anne Brut is a blend of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier, produced entirely in Merfy, where Chartogne-Taillet is based. The wine is built on clarity and a clean, linear structure, without excess layering. Elegant but quite direct in style, it finishes with a long saline line and marked tension. It’s one of those Champagnes that gives a clear sense of the house style — and shows how the wine evolves even over a short period of time. A must try.
Under the direction of the young Alexandre Chartogne, Chartogne-Taillet wines—long recognized but, in our opinion, still underrated—are demonstrating clear progress, driven by remarkable experimentation, meticulous attention to detail, and a deep passion. Among the notable innovations at this remote cellar in Merfy (on the Massif de Saint-Thierry, just northwest of Reims) is the use of concrete eggs for fermentation and aging. The shape and material of these eggs promote better contact with the pomace through Brownian motion. The emergence of single-vineyard Champagne here reflects a growing trend among bold young winegrowers in Champagne. This experimental approach also includes rigorous dosage testing, consistently achieving optimal expressions (even though the dosages themselves are not literally sweet).
