Domaine Armand Heitz Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2020

Vendor code : 509

Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru, one of Burgundy's most esteemed vineyards, is named in tribute to two emperors. The name "Corton" is derived from Otto, the Holy Roman Emperor, while "Charlemagne" honors its founder, Emperor Charlemagne (Latin Carolus Magnus, later known as Charlemagne in French), who once owned a hill covered with vineyards.

Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2020 is a powerful, full-bodied white wine, crafted in a style similar to Montrachet and Meursault 1er Cru Perrières. The terroir’s potential is immediately apparent. This Grand Cru vineyard is situated on the border between the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune, at an elevation of 280-330 meters above sea level, with a south-western exposure. The soils consist of limestone layers with marl, along with thin layers of rendzina and clay. The yield is 45 hl/ha. Domaine Armand Heitz’s Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2020 opens with aromas of pear, orange zest, peach, honey, and white flowers. On the palate, it is enveloping, with a well-balanced acidity, vibrant tension, and a long, satisfying finish.

At Domaine Armand Heitz, the timing of the harvest is of utmost importance. The harvests take place when Domaine Armand Heitz determines that the balance between sugar and acidity is at its peak and the berries have reached optimal maturity, reflecting the characteristics of the vintage. To maintain the highest quality of the harvest and prevent the berries from being crushed, Domaine Armand Heitz conducts the harvest using small crates. Once the grapes are pressed, the must is decanted and placed into barrels during the middle of alcoholic fermentation.
