The grapes for this wine come from the exclusive 14.5-hectare Falletto vineyard, entirely owned by Bruno Giacosa. This low-yield plot (45 hl/ha) is situated in the commune of Serralunga d'Alba, within the Barolo region. Falletto represents the pinnacle of Serralunga, often considered the 'non plus ultra' of Barolo, embodying the quintessential expression of the region.
The 2019 Barolo Falletto Vigna Le Rocche is an exceptional wine, embodying the classic style of Giacosa. It features a core of sweet orange, dark fruit, licorice, and menthol, currently concealed behind an impressive wall of tannins. This is a wine of contrasts—at times open and accessible, while at others brooding and reserved. As it ages, the fruit gradually reveals itself in the glass, filling out the wine's structure. Produced in the heart of the Falletto vineyard, it benefits from the age of the vines in these selected plots. Best enjoyed between 2026 and 2048.
Bruno Giacosa's name stands among the greatest winemakers in history, with an invaluable legacy of wines that have demonstrated the exceptional potential of the Barbaresco region to the world. Though often seen as a traditionalist, Giacosa was one of the most progressive winemakers in Piedmont during the 1960s. He was among the first to release single-vineyard wines at a time when most producers blended grapes from various areas. While many great winemakers in Piedmont are celebrated for mastering either Barolo or Barbaresco, Giacosa is uniquely regarded as a ‘superstar’ in both appellations. His portfolio commands careful attention: the red label signifies wines from his own vineyards, while the white label denotes wines made from purchased grapes. Additionally, Giacosa's collection includes several ‘mythical’ wines, produced in limited quantities and no longer in production.
