1918. Manuel De Sousa, a veteran of the First World War, chose to remain in Champagne after the war instead of returning to Portugal. He settled in Avize, at the heart of the Côte des Blancs, taking part in rebuilding the region. His life was cut short, but his son continued the story, marrying Zoémie Bonville from one of the most respected winemaking families. This is how Champagne De Sousa was born.

Today, this is a family estate based in Avize, working with Grand Cru vineyards on the chalk soils of the Côte des Blancs. The focus is on Chardonnay, with vines averaging over 45 years of age, shaping the concentration and structure of the wines. Under Erick De Sousa, the domaine became one of the pioneers of biodynamic viticulture in Champagne (Demeter certified since 2013), with a clear emphasis on living soils, old vines and oak vinification.

The estate covers around 10 hectares of owned vineyards, with an additional 4 hectares farmed through sharecropping, producing approximately 100,000 bottles per year. In 2020, the next generation took over full responsibility — from vineyard work to vinification and bottling — continuing the family approach while bringing a more contemporary perspective.

Lambier Wines works directly with Champagne De Sousa, providing access to key cuvées through private allocations for private clients.
