It is hard to imagine a winemaker as respected in Marsanne as Bruno Clair: organic farming in the 1980s, long before it was fashionable, the consistency of a style of wine that is characterized by elegance, finesse, and complexity, vines that were planted in 1912, the legendary Clos de Bèze and Bonnes-Mares grand cru - all this and more create a fascinating reputation in the world of wines among connoisseurs and wine critics. Going to the authoritative magazine "Wine Advocate", you find scores of 95+ points. However, we are no less surprised by the pricing of wines, which remain at a very fair price. Walking through Burgundy, it is far from always possible to find a domain with such history, reputation, and quality of wines for such money. We would like to go further and focus on terroir, which is what Bruno Clair is famous for. Thorough knowledge of each of the 24 sites allows for masterful adjusting production techniques, adapting them to the constantly changing climatic conditions of each vintage.
Until 1987, Marsannay wines were sold as basic Burgundy, without their communal appellation. Joseph Clair, Bruno's grandfather, was the first to plant Pinot Noir in Marsanne, previously Gamay was planted here, thanks to which the commune was able to make a qualitative breakthrough, and the Claires would forever enter themselves into history.
Our conclusion: this is a brilliant domain, one of the hidden gems of Burgundy, which remains out of the sight of many Burgundy lovers, thus giving more options to connoisseurs who have found themselves in the style of Bruno Clair. The domain deserves high marks and we are proud to deal with the iconic winemaker!
