Piedmont. Truffle. Barolo. Barbaresco
Piedmont. Truffle. Barolo. Barbaresco

Once you visit Piedmont, you want to return here again and again, just like in French Burgundy. Here winemakers pass their skills from generation to generation, here is the most delicious cuisine of Italy and the most beautiful nature. September is also the best time to visit the region: truffle hunting, the end of the harvest, and the pleasant fall chill. Piedmont is fantastically diverse in terms of wines: from the simple and fun Asti to the complex and aged Barolo and Barbaresco.

Barolo and Barbaresco are the two main villages of Piedmont. These villages produce some of Italy's most elegant and long-lived wines. Riserva wines do not reach the shelf until five years after harvest. The grapes from the southern slopes are of such high quality that it takes at least 5 years for the wine to be ready to drink. What does this depend on? Why does 1 hectare of land with southern exposure cost more than 2000 million euros today, and nobody needs the northern side of the same hill? Why do some wines "die" after a year, while Barolo and Barbaresco can be drunk even after 50 years? All this we will learn and experience in practice :) Because we have prepared for you a tasting of 6 vintages from the 80-90s, which we will taste while admiring the vineyards of the Langhe region.

"In truffle we trust" is the slogan of the guys at Bianco Taftuffi. They know everything about truffles, their extraction, and their sale. They tell with pleasure and passion about this delicacy's history and peculiarities. And the hard-working dogs will help us to feel all the pleasure of truffle hunting!

Tasting of rare vintages from the 1980s-1990s from Angelo Gaja, Marchesi di Barolo, Borgogno, Vietti, Giacomo Conterno, and Bartolo Mascarello.

  • Arnaldo Rivera. Wines from Arnaldo Rivera, named after the founder of the oldest wine cooperative Terre del Barolo. Produced exclusively from their vineyards, among which are the best areas of Barolo: Cannubi, Bussia, Vignarionda, and Rocche di Castiglione (we will learn about all this on the trip :).
  • Borgogno - the winery has been around since 1761 and produces the longest-lived Barolos of the region.
  • Bruno Giacosa - Master of Nebbiolo, the winery was founded in 1900 in Barbaresco. Elegance, austerity, style, potential - it's all about Giacosa wines.
  • Piero Busso. From the early years, Busso's philosophy was clear: to produce wines that know how to express terroir. The company was founded in 1948 and to this day produces wines that are first and foremost an expression of Barbaresco terroir.

We will stay at the hotel of one of Piedmont's oldest wine families, Marchesi di Gresy - Dai Gresy, located in the heart of Piedmont's sub-region of Langhe.
