Storm Wines aims to create wines that express a true sense of place. The couple, Hannes and Natalia Storm, specialize in producing wines from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley. The influence of the Atlantic Ocean promotes the development of wines with high natural acidity and cool minerality.
Pinot Noir Ridge 2017 hails from the cool eastern slopes, with fine, stony, clay-rich Bokkeveld schist soils in the Hemel en Aarde range. This delicate wine opens with subtle floral and fruit nuances. The palate reveals soft tannins and a graceful profile. Pinot Noir Ridge 2017 is at its peak maturity, with 6,000 bottles released.
Influenced by the Atlantic Ocean, Hemel-en-Aarde, South Africa, is considered an exceptional cool-climate wine region, a characteristic reflected in the style of Storm Wines. Hannes Storm discovered plots in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley and planted them with Pinot Noir. Hannes and his wife, Natalia Storm, produce wines on the valley’s poor, stony, clay soils, composed of decomposed granite and shale. Storm Wines is the only winery in the valley to produce Pinot Noir under all three of the region’s appellations. With small production, minimal cellar intervention, and a terroir-driven philosophy, their wines express unique personality and character.
