Champagne Eric Rodez Blanc de Noirs Grand Cru

Vendor code : 1399

Eric Rodez is part of a rapidly growing group of Champagne winemakers dedicated to biodynamic viticulture. His six hectares in Ambonnay are divided into three dozen plots, enabling nearly twice as many micro-vinifications. These intricate blending puzzles are expertly managed, drawing on the experience he gained during his time at Krug. Champagne Eric Rodez Blanc de Noirs Grand Cru is a prime example of this meticulous approach, showcasing the depth and character achievable through biodynamic practices and precise vinification techniques.

Eric Rodez Blanc de Noirs Grand Cru Extra Brut is crafted exclusively from Pinot Noir, sourced from a terroir renowned for its power and length. Eighty percent of the wine bypasses malolactic fermentation, preserving its lively acidity. This Blanc de Noirs is a blend of 5 to 6 vintages, with 90% of the wine fermented in small oak barrels. Strikingly expressive, it reveals aromas of mirabelle plum, raspberry, toasted almonds, honeycomb, and white flowers. Full-bodied and centered around an enveloping fruit core, it harmonizes ripe yet zesty acidity with a delicate, creamy mousse. Reflecting the strength of its terroir, Eric Rodez Blanc de Noirs promises even greater complexity after an additional year or two of bottle aging.

Eric Rodez, who began his journey with the challenging 1984 vintage, represents the eighth generation of the family domaine in Ambonnay. Since the 2014 harvest, Mickael, representing generation number nine, has joined the team. Together, Eric and Mickael have reorganized the range of wines produced by the domaine, which cultivates six hectares of vines exclusively in Ambonnay, following biodynamic principles (Demeter certified). The Champagne d'Auteur range is crafted from Rodez's extensive reserve wine stock, which currently consists of 52 different wines spanning eight vintages. The lieux-dits champagnes are (almost) all single-vineyard, single-variety, and single-vintage wines from Ambonnay. These wines are fermented in small oak barrels and bottled unfiltered. Unlike the Auteur cuvées, which include a combination of wines that have and have not undergone malolactic fermentation, the single-vineyard wines undergo secondary fermentation without malolactic fermentation. Five of the lieux-dits wines are Pinot Noirs, while the sixth—Les Ginettes—is one of the rare Blanc de Blancs from Ambonnay. Rounding out the range is the dense and complex Empreinte de Terroir, a vintage-specific terroir wine made from Pinot Noir sourced from five or six parcels. This cuvée combines fruit from younger and older vines with an average age of about 40 years. Champagne Éric Rodez Blanc de Noirs Grand Cru Extra Brut is a compelling expression of 100% Pinot Noir from the esteemed Grand Cru vineyards of Ambonnay in the Montagne de Reims. This cuvée is crafted from a blend of six vintages, with 90% of the wines vinified in small oak barrels and 80% undergoing partial malolactic fermentation, resulting in a champagne of exceptional complexity and depth.
