In the village of Les Riceys, in the Côte des Bar, the Gallimard Domaine has been a family-run estate for six generations. Didier and Arnaud now work together to manage the vineyard, focusing on sustainable practices that respect the environment and highlight the character of the terroir. One of their champagnes, Cuvée Amphoressence, reflects this approach.
Champagne Gallimard Père et Fils Cuvée Amphoressence Brut Nature is a limited production Champagne, with 2,500 bottles made. It is composed of 50% Pinot Noir and 50% Chardonnay from a single harvest. The wine is aged for five months in Tuscan terracotta amphorae, followed by a minimum of 48 months on lees. The Champagne shows a golden color with clarity and fine bubbles. Aromas include citrus, grapefruit, white fruit, pear, and light buttered notes with brioche. On the palate, it is fresh and balanced, with saline minerality and a clean finish featuring exotic fruits like mango. Cuvée Amphoressence pairs well with sea bream, scallops tartare with citrus, salmon carpaccio, and oysters.
Champagne Gallimard Pere et Fils is a family company that has been passed down through six generations. The winery is located in the heart of the Côte de Bar, in the renowned village of Les Riceys. The terroir of Les Riceys has significant characteristics: it is the largest terroir in Champagne, with 866 hectares of vineyards, and the only village in Champagne authorized to produce three appellations: Champagne, Coteaux Champenois, and the celebrated Rosé des Riceys, highly valued by Louis XIV. Today, Didier and Arnaud Gallimard, the current generation of the family, lead the Maison Champagne Gallimard, cultivating a 12-hectare vineyard. The company owns superb 17th-century stone cellars, maintaining constant temperature and humidity levels, which provide optimal conditions for the maturation of Champagne wines, especially vintage wines, which are aged for 5 years. The Champagne wines of the House have been recognized with numerous gold medals in prestigious competitions and are featured in the world’s most important wine guides.
