Storm Wines aims to create wines with a sense of place. The couple Hannes and Natalia Storm specialize in producing wines from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay varieties in the Hemel-en-Arde valley. The influence of the Atlantic Ocean favors the creation of wines with high natural acidity and cool minerality.
Pinot Noir Ridge hails from the cool eastern slope of the thin, rocky, clay-rich Bokkeveld shale soil in the Hemel-en-Aarde range. It is a delicate and aromatic wine with floral notes, spices, red cherries and raspberries, zesty tannins, and focused acidity.
Influenced by the Atlantic Ocean, Hemel-en-Aarde, South Africa, is considered an exceptional cool-climate wine region, a characteristic reflected in the style of Storm Wines. Hannes Storm discovered plots in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley and planted them with Pinot Noir. Hannes and his wife, Natalia Storm, produce wines on the valley’s poor, stony, clay soils, composed of decomposed granite and shale. Storm Wines is the only winery in the valley to produce Pinot Noir under all three of the region’s appellations. With small production, minimal cellar intervention, and a terroir-driven philosophy, their wines express unique personality and character.
