Marc Hebrart is a small and very interesting producer from the Vallée de la Marne that produces Pinot Noir-dominated Champagne from its own vineyards. The key is to balance the minerality and bright acidity of Chardonnay with the strong juiciness of Pinot Noir. All grapes are vinified separately from individual plots to preserve the unique character of each terroir.
Cuvee Rive Gauche Rive Droite Grand Cru Millesime 2015 reflects an old-school style, with vinification in small, old barrels using wild yeast, no filtration, and low dosage, which lends the wine great complexity. The purity and intensity of the aroma are expressed through notes of pear, pineapple, and brioche, set against a backdrop of mineral, chalky, and salty nuances. On the palate, the champagne is elegantly fruity with a mineral component and a seamless structure. It is recommended to be consumed between 2023 and 2030.
Marc Hébrart's wines possess broad appeal, catering to both thoughtful wine enthusiasts and those seeking pure drinking pleasure. They strike a harmonious balance, offering intellectual engagement for those who enjoy contemplating their wines and sheer deliciousness for those simply looking to enjoy a great glass. These wines are marked by fullness and generosity, while maintaining complexity and a distinct sense of terroir. The entire range consistently upholds high-quality standards and offers remarkable value for the price. Under the leadership of Jean-Paul Hébrart since 1997, the 15-hectare domaine is predominantly planted with 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay. The estate manages an impressive 75 parcels across five grand cru villages: Mareuil-sur-Aÿ (with eight hectares under cultivation), Aÿ, Avize, Oiry, and Chouilly, along with several premier crus. Marc Hébrart's commitment to organic practices is evident where feasible, with a preference for avoiding synthetic treatments. The vinification process treats each vineyard block individually, with malolactic fermentation deliberately blocked for all wines except two: the Coteaux Champenois and the Rive Gauche – Rive Droite, a Champagne crafted in a 'Burgundian' style, composed of Chardonnay from Chouilly and Avize, and Pinot Noir from Aÿ. Notably, the House excels in delivering excellent quality, particularly with the Brut Sélection, all at highly attractive price points. Marc Hébrart is an active member of the Club Trésors de Champagne, an association of growers dedicated to promoting high-quality wines. Their signature cuvée, the Spécial Club, stands as a testament to their commitment to excellence, though it’s important to note that the entire range of Champagnes from this House is consistently exceptional, from the top-tier offerings to the more accessible ones. Exploring Marc Hébrart's wines is a rewarding experience for any Champagne enthusiast.
