Founded in 2016 by brothers Romain and Damien Bouchard, Domaine de l’Enclos represents a new generation of Chablis producers committed to organic farming and transparent winemaking. Though young as an estate, the Domaine is built on a foundation of deep family roots in the region and a thoughtful, terroir-driven philosophy that places respect for the land at the center of its identity.
The 29-hectare estate includes vineyards across Chablis’ full hierarchy—from Petit Chablis and village-level parcels to premier and grand cru sites such as Vau de Vey, Mont de Milieu, and Les Clos. The heart of Domaine de l’Enclos lies in Chablis proper, where the family owns and farms some of the most prized limestone-rich soils in the appellation. All vines have been certified organic since the very beginning of the project—a rarity in Chablis, where conventional practices have long been the norm.
Romain and Damien combine technical precision with a naturalistic sensibility. In the cellar, their approach is low-intervention: native yeasts, minimal sulfur, and a careful balance between stainless steel and neutral oak barrels, depending on the cuvée. This results in wines that express Chablis’ signature tension and minerality without artifice—clean, textured, and saline.
Unlike some producers who chase opulence, Domaine de l’Enclos focuses on energy and clarity. Their wines are structured but not austere, marked by a quiet intensity and vibrant acidity that speak clearly of place. The use of oak is always restrained and purposeful—meant to support, not define, the wine.
What sets the Domaine apart is not only its technical mastery, but its conviction: to farm responsibly, to vinify transparently, and to reflect the character of each parcel without manipulation. Whether it’s the finely etched Petit Chablis from high-altitude clay-limestone soils or the layered, long-lived Grand Cru Les Clos, the wines consistently offer a precise and compelling portrait of Chablis.
In just a few vintages, Domaine de l’Enclos has earned critical attention and a loyal following among sommeliers, collectors, and importers looking for purity and modern elegance in white Burgundy. Their work represents the future of Chablis—rooted in heritage, shaped by conscience, and defined by an unwavering commitment to quality.
Domaine de l’Enclos is more than a rising star—it is a clear signal that Chablis, when farmed and vinified with integrity, has no need to imitate the style of Côte de Beaune. It stands strong in its own right, and few express that truth more convincingly than the Bouchard brothers.
