Lagvinari is a small organic winery in Georgia, founded in 2011 by Dr. Eko Glonti, a former physician and geologist who works closely with local winegrowers. Glonti uses local grape varieties and traditional winemaking methods to produce his wines. The wines are fermented and aged in clay egg-shaped vessels known as kvevri, an ancient Georgian winemaking method recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage practice. Lagvinari creates wines of different styles according to the Kakhetian or Imeretian methods. These wines are featured on the menus of several Michelin-starred restaurants!
Lagvinari Otskhanuri Sapere 2022 is a red dry wine with a unique character, made from the local Otskhanuri Sapere grape, one of the oldest Georgian varieties, grown in Kakheti. The production follows the traditional Georgian method, with fermentation and maturation taking place in kvevri clay jugs. The wine is not filtered or clarified before bottling. Otskhanuri Sapere offers a distinctive aromatic profile, featuring notes of wet forest, barberry, plum, mulberry, and spice. It is full-bodied but not heavy, with good acidity, a structured and complex character that evolves over time. It pairs beautifully with red meat.
Part of the Lagvinari vineyards are located in Imereti, a popular wine region in the heart of Georgia, nestled at the foot of the majestic Caucasus Mountains. This idyllic region captivates wine connoisseurs with its ancient winemaking traditions and breathtaking natural beauty. Among the renowned producers of natural wine from Imereti is Lagvinari Organic Winery, a respected name that crafts its wines using eco-friendly methods, employing sustainable farming and minimal intervention to preserve the authenticity of the grapes and convey terroir. Imereti is renowned for its indigenous grape varieties, including Otskhanuri Sapere, Tsitska, Tsolikouri, and Krakhuna. These varieties lend the region's wines their distinctive flavors and aromas, making them truly unique.
