Lagvinari is a small organic winery in Georgia, founded in 2011 by Dr. Eko Glonti, a former physician and geologist who works closely with local winegrowers. Glonti uses local grape varieties and traditional winemaking methods to produce his wines. The wines are fermented and aged in clay egg-shaped vessels known as kvevri, an ancient Georgian winemaking method recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage practice. Lagvinari creates wines of different styles according to the Kakhetian or Imeretian methods. These wines are featured on the menus of several Michelin-starred restaurants!
Lagvinari Shavkapito Tavkveri 2022 is a red dry wine with a unique character, produced from locally grown Shavkapito and Tavkveri grapes in Kartli. The wine is made using the traditional Georgian method, with fermentation and maturation carried out in kvevri clay jugs. It is not filtered or clarified before bottling. Shavkapito Tavkveri showcases a distinctive style. Shavkapito contributes depth, sweetness, spice, and blackberry flavors, while Tavkveri adds freshness and a hint of forest leaves, bringing energy to the wine. This wine is wonderfully elegant, medium-bodied, complex, evolving, and well-balanced.
Lagvinari is a small winery located in Kakheti and owned by Dr. Eko Glonti, a medical geologist by training. Eko is committed to utilizing sustainable Georgian farming methods and ancient winemaking techniques to preserve Georgia's rich cultural heritage. In addition to tending his vineyards, where only local grape varieties are grown, Eko works closely with small grape growers in both East and West Georgia. He founded Lagvinari in 2010, inspired by his love for pure, traditional Georgian wine. All of Lagvinari's wines are produced and aged in kvevri, with no filtration or clarification before bottling. Eko prefers long maceration because, as he says, 'all the useful substances and all the goodness are concentrated in the skin of the grapes.'
