Domaine Albert Morot is one of the leading producers in the Côte de Beaune. Founded by Albert Morot in 1820, the estate remains family-managed. The domaine covers just under 8 hectares of vineyards, spread across seven Beaune Premier Cru plots: Les Teurons, Les Grèves, Les Toussaints, Les Bressandes, Les Cent Vignes, Les Marconnets, and La Bataillère. The vines are notably old, with an average age of around 45 years, and the yields are exceptionally low.
The 2015 Albert Morot Beaune Bressandes Premier Cru offers a delicate texture with a subtle, chocolatey sweetness that imparts a refined energy to the wine. It displays slightly elevated tones that unfold in a seductive way, making this an intriguing vintage for this premier cru. The Bressandes plot, spanning 1.27 hectares, is situated mid-slope with a south-eastern exposure. The soil here is well-balanced, consisting of limestone, loam, and clay. Fermentation occurs in open vats with partial destemming of the grapes, and the wine is matured in French oak barrels for 14 to 18 months. Malolactic fermentation is intentionally slow.
Founded in 1820 as a négociant business by Albert Morot, the estate purchased its first vineyards in the 1880s and constructed its headquarters, Château de Creusotte, in 1898. After enduring several difficult decades, particularly after World War Two, when parts of the vineyards had to be sold to remain solvent, Albert Morot’s great-granddaughter Françoise Choppin inherited the estate in 1984. Françoise discontinued the négociant activities and concentrated solely on the estate's vineyards. In 2000, Geoffroy Choppin de Janvry took over the management of the domaine. On average, Albert Morot’s vines are 45 years old. The vineyards are farmed organically, with low yields. The grapes are harvested by hand, destemmed before vinification, and aged for 18 months in 50 percent new oak barrels before being bottled without filtration. While Pinot Noir is the dominant grape variety at Albert Morot, the estate also produces two Chardonnay wines – the premier cru Les Aigrots and the white Savigny-lès-Beaune Premier Cru La Bataille. Additionally, the estate produces Fine de Bourgogne and Marc de Bourgogne.
