Domaine Albert Morot is located in Beaune and specializes in the wines of this appellation. Founded in 1820 by Albert Morot, the estate remains family-owned, with 8 hectares of organically farmed vineyards divided among eight Premier Cru plots. The energetic and authentic Pinot Noirs are always characterized by intense spicy nuances, as well as structure and depth of flavor. Morot wines are considered to be among the best of the Premier Cru red Burgundies.
The 2015 Albert Morot Les Cents Vignes Premier Cru is a full-bodied wine, offering hints of kirsch and licorice. Black fruit flavors are complemented by resinous notes and pronounced tannins, all beautifully supported by the wine's impressive density. With time, more animalistic and leathery tones develop, characteristic of this Beaune wine, often reminiscent of those from Gevrey.
The 1.27-hectare Cents Vignes Premier Cru vineyard is located at the bottom of the slope, with soil composed mainly of clay and loam. Pottery finds from this vineyard indicate that an agricultural settlement existed here during Gallo-Roman times. Planting density is 10,000 vines per hectare, with vine ages ranging from 1958 to 2023. The traditional method of fermentation is employed in open vats, with partial destemming of the grapes. Only natural yeast is used. Aging lasts from 14 to 18 months in French oak barrels, with a slow malolactic fermentation process.
