While some Champagne brands embrace luxury marketing and extravagant packaging, Henri Giraud takes a different approach by embracing a minimalist style. In a region where growers are closely examined for their commitment to sustainable development, the house sets itself apart by offering Coteaux Champenois bottles with the Triple Zero guarantee: No Pesticides, No Insecticides, No Herbicides.

Rather than prioritizing dosage or blending like many others, Henri Giraud emphasizes showcasing the unique characteristics of the terroir and the intricate science of aging.

Under the leadership of Claude Giraud, Champagne Henri Giraud is actively developing its unique identity within the champagne industry. Claude, who represents the 12th generation of the Giraud-Hémart family, has deep roots in Champagne dating back to the 17th century. With the assistance of his son-in-law, Sébastien Le Golvet, who has held the position of cellarmaster since the mid-2000s, Claude has successfully established the Henri Giraud Champagne House as a distinguished and highly respected destination for collectors and champagne enthusiasts around the globe.

The Forest's Profound Knowledge And Insight

Henri Giraud has not only acquired extensive knowledge about the terroirs of their vineyards but also conducted thorough experiments on various oak terroirs in the Argonne Forest over the past three decades. Their objective has been to find the perfect harmony between wine and wood. The Argonne Forest, located in close proximity to the Champagne region, features soil with high impermeability known as gaize, which leads to slow oak tree growth. As a result, the forest produces tightly-grained wood that was traditionally utilized in shipbuilding during the time of Colbert. This type of wood imparts remarkable precision to the aging process of wine.

Henri Giraud Champagne House actively engages in the preservation and understanding of the Argonne Forest in collaboration with the French National Forestry Office (ONF), and they have made wood traceability a focal point of their endeavors. Each year, approximately one month before the harvest, Sébastien thoroughly assesses the grape maturity levels. Once he gains a good understanding of the vintage's characteristics, he places orders for specific types of wood and personally supervises the toasting process alongside the coopers. Each barrel is tailored to a particular juice based on its origin and level of toasting. Within these barrels, the champagne wine undergoes a patient development, resulting in an intense, rich, and well-structured aromatic profile. This is what embodies the distinctive "EnergyInside" mark of Henri Giraud: wines of exceptional quality, where the gentle effervescence complements the raw materials and reveals an astonishing liveliness.

Fun Fact

Growing an oak tree takes a remarkable 180 years. In a fast-paced world where time seems to slip away, the act of planting an oak tree holds tremendous significance. It serves as a small yet impactful way for each of us to contribute to the preservation of nearby forests. This very notion inspired Henri Giraud to launch the "Forever and Ever Argonne" campaign in 2013, in collaboration with the French National Forestry Office (ONF), to safeguard the local Argonne Forest. As part of this initiative, for every bottle of the ARGONNE cuvée sold, newly sprouted oak saplings, aged two years, are planted. Furthermore, the financing of their care and maintenance for the subsequent five years is fully supported. As a result, the protection of the Forest of Argonne and the preservation of Champagne's heritage are well underway, with over 50,000 new oak trees already planted.
