The Champagne Vazart-Coquart Spécial Club Grand Cru 2016 Extra Brut is crafted exclusively from 100% Chardonnay grapes grown in the Grand Cru village of Chouilly in the Côte des Blancs. This vintage exemplifies the finesse and purity of its renowned terroir. The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and is vinified in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats, preserving its freshness and minerality. Bottled in May 2017, it matures on its lees for 6 to 7 years with a natural cork stopper, enhancing complexity and depth. With a dosage of just 1 g/l, it is classified as an Extra Brut, emphasizing its crisp and dry profile. On the nose, this cuvée reveals aromas of ripe green fruit, white peach, and baked apple, complemented by mature citrus notes of baked lemon. Subtle layers of soft minerality, chalk, and saline tones intertwine with nuances of brioche, butter, and bread yeast from extended lees aging. Hints of toasted almonds and a soft barrel influence add further depth and complexity. The palate is juicy, smooth, and vibrant, showcasing ripe green fruit, baked apple, stone fruit, and white peach. A ripe citrus element of lemon provides refreshing acidity, balancing the wine's creamy texture and vibrant energy. The finish is fresh and gourmand, leaving a delicate mineral touch that lingers. This Spécial Club cuvée reflects Champagne Vazart-Coquart's dedication to crafting refined and expressive champagnes that capture the unique essence of Chouilly's Grand Cru vineyards.
At Champagne Vazart-Coquart, the goose of Chouilly has become a cherished emblem, reflecting the estate’s deep connection to its history and local culture. In the mid-20th century, flocks of geese were a common sight in Chouilly, earning the villagers the nickname “bilots,” a local dialect word for goose. Though the geese have largely disappeared from the village streets, their honking can still occasionally be heard, evoking memories of a bygone era. To honor this legacy and the three generations that have shaped the estate, each bottle of Champagne Vazart-Coquart features three small stylized geese. This symbol represents not only the family’s history but also their commitment to carrying forward the traditions and values that define their wines.
