Domaine Philippe Colin

Philippe Colin established his own Domaine in 2004 after the division of the family estate, Domaine Michel Colin-Deleger. Rooted in Chassagne-Montrachet, Philippe brings a distinct identity to his wines—focused, elegant, and meticulous in expression. His vision balances deep respect for terroir with a contemporary sensibility, producing wines that have quickly earned a place among Burgundy’s most refined interpretations.

Today, Domaine Philippe Colin spans just over 11 hectares, primarily in Chassagne-Montrachet, but also reaching into Puligny-Montrachet, Saint-Aubin, and Santenay. The estate cultivates Chardonnay and Pinot Noir with equal care, though it is the white wines—particularly from premier cru sites such as Les Chenevottes, Les Vergers, and En Remilly—that consistently garner attention for their clarity and layered texture.

Philippe Colin is known for a precise, almost architectural style of winemaking. The emphasis is always on purity: hand-harvested grapes, gentle pressing, and a restrained use of new oak (typically no more than 25% for whites) result in wines that are vibrant and terroir-driven. Fermentation and aging take place in French oak barrels, with regular bâtonnage early in élevage to build mid-palate volume without losing finesse.

The reds, often overlooked in Chassagne, are treated with equal seriousness. Philippe produces small volumes from parcels in Santenay and Chassagne-Montrachet, working with partial destemming and moderate extraction to produce lithe, perfumed wines with fine tannins and energy.

Vintage after vintage, the Domaine’s hallmark remains the same: a quest for precision over power, texture over opulence, and site transparency over winemaking signature. In a region where climate change increasingly challenges traditional structures, Colin’s approach feels all the more relevant—seeking freshness and drinkability without sacrificing character.

Though relatively young as a standalone Domaine, Philippe Colin’s wines have quickly become staples on fine wine lists around the world. They are particularly appreciated by collectors and sommeliers who value restrained yet expressive white Burgundy.

Domaine Philippe Colin represents a new generation of Burgundy producers: grounded in tradition, but not constrained by it. For those looking to explore the subtle complexity of Chassagne-Montrachet, it offers a portfolio that is as trustworthy as it is compelling.
