Coteaux Sillery Champenois Blanc Grand Cru Champagne François Secondé

Vendor code : 414

Francois Secondé stands alone as the sole independent grower, or RM (Récoltant-Manipulant), in the esteemed Sillery Grand Cru region. In the 17th century, Sillery, alongside Aÿ, held great renown as one of the most celebrated Champagne wines, primarily in still form. Situated on the northern slopes of the Montagne de Reims, Sillery, traditionally known for its focus on Pinot Noir, deviates from the norm by cultivating a higher proportion of Chardonnay (48%) than any other grand cru outside the Côte des Blancs. Additionally, the vineyards in Sillery encompass Pinot Noir (43%) and Pinot Meunier (9%) grape varieties.

The wines from Sillery comprise Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes. The vinification process involves a combination of wood barrels and vats, including malolactic fermentation. Before bottling, the wines undergo a minimum of one year of aging in wood barrels without filtration. On the nose, these wines exhibit enticing aromas of citrus fruit, vanilla, and exotic fruits. The initial taste is fresh and lively, followed by a full-bodied and vinous character, with a distinctively refreshing finish. This wine is well-suited to accompany cold starters, oysters, and goat cheese, offering a delightful pairing experience.

For many centuries, Sillery has been renowned for producing the world's most highly sought-after still white wine in the Champagne region. Situated in Sillery, Champagne François Secondé is a winery with a cultivated land area of 5 hectares. As an independent winemaker and the sole harvester-maker and Champagne producer of authentic Sillery Champagne, Champagne François Secondé holds a unique position. At the age of 14, François Secondé left school and began his journey as an apprentice, eventually working as a vineyard laborer. He initially leased a vineyard and acquired his first one in 1972. Presently, Champagne François Secondé's vineyard is predominantly composed of 2/3 Pinot Noir and 1/3 Chardonnay grapes and is located in Sillery, Mailly-Champagne, Puilsieux et Verzenay. The vines, averaging 37 years of age, are cultivated using sustainable practices that prioritize environmental preservation.
