Domaine Bruno Clair Marsannay Les Vaudenelles 2022 is produced from Pinot Noir grown on a 1.273-hectare plot planted in 1976. Situated at 320m altitude on clay-limestone soils with a subsoil of Ostrea acuminata, and facing south-east, this site brings depth and vibrancy. The wine undergoes fermentation with 10–20% whole bunches and 10–15 days maceration in wooden vats, then matures for 18–20 months in oak barrels, about 25% new. It shows a ruby red colour with aromas of sweet raspberries, plums and spices. On the palate, there’s fresh fruit, lovely balance and very nice freshness, making this Marsannay a pleasure to enjoy.

Founded in 1979 in Marsannay, Domaine Bruno Clair stands on a foundation of deep winegrowing tradition, as is so often the case in Burgundy. The estate draws on six generations of expertise to carefully select its vines, crafting outstanding reds, whites, and even rosés. Each year, the domaine produces Grand Crus such as Chambertin Clos de Bèze and Bonnes-Mares for the reds, and Corton-Charlemagne for the whites. The understated labels belie the depth of skill behind these wines. The domaine’s 27 hectares are spread across renowned communes like Marsannay, Gevrey-Chambertin, Morey-Saint-Denis, Vosne-Romanée, Savigny-lès-Beaune, and Aloxe-Corton. Nestled in the heart of Burgundy, the vineyards are rooted in clay-limestone soils and enjoy exposures ranging from east and southeast to full south — ideal for ripening the grapes. Pinot Noir is the primary grape, forming the backbone of the domaine’s distinguished reds. Among the prestigious Grands Crus are Bonnes-Mares and Chambertin Clos de Bèze, while the list of notable Premiers Crus includes Clos-Saint-Jacques in Gevrey-Chambertin, La Dominode in Savigny-lès-Beaune, Les Charmes in Chambolle-Musigny, and Aux Raignots in Vosne-Romanée. In Marsannay, parcels such as Les Longeroies, Les Grasses Têtes, and Les Vaudenelles showcase the appellation’s potential. From Morey-Saint-Denis comes En la rue de Vergy, crafted in both red and white. The wines are aged in oak for 18 to 20 months, with up to half this time spent in new barrels, depending on the cuvée. Chardonnay takes center stage for the whites. The Grand Cru vines in Corton-Charlemagne date to 1976, the white plots in Marsannay were planted between 1988 and 1998, and the Pernand-Vergelesses vineyard joined in 1996. The estate continues to evolve, also offering a fresh and vibrant Marsannay Rosé. A perfect example of Marsannay’s promise, the Marsannay Les Vaudenelles 2022 reveals lively red berry fruit, gentle spice, and a refined structure. It shows how Bruno Clair’s careful vineyard work and traditional approach bring out both energy and elegance in this lesser-known but characterful terroir.
