Clos Solon is a village-level vineyard in Morey-Saint-Denis, planted in 1961 on a 0.55-hectare parcel composed of limestone and clay soils. The 2022 is vinified from 100% Pinot Noir, sourced exclusively from vines over 60 years old. Elevation and soil composition contribute to a structured yet elegant profile. The wine undergoes 18 to 20 months of barrel aging, with 15 to 20% new oak, aimed at preserving fruit clarity and vineyard expression. The fermentation process incorporates the estate’s characteristic use of naturally dissolved CO2 to minimize sulfur addition and limit cellar intervention. The 2022 vintage presents medium body with firm tannins and a fresh acidity. Aromas include blackberry, raspberry, forest floor, and tobacco, supported by lavender and spiced dark fruit on the palate. Compared to Domaine Fourrier’s Chambolle-Musigny, Clos Solon offers a more robust structure while maintaining refinement. Domaine Fourrier, led by fifth-generation vigneron Jean-Marie Fourrier since 1994, holds a non-interventionist philosophy, emphasizing rigorous viticulture and restraint in the cellar. The estate releases less than 1% of production domestically, with the majority exported. The 2022 Clos Solon is rated 91-93 points by Vinous (Neal Martin).

The 2022 Morey-Saint-Denis Clos Solon has long been one of Jean-Marie Fourrier's strongest cards, and this vintage is no different: the wonderful, quite complex nose offers blackberry, raspberry, sous-bois, and light tobacco scents. Very engaging. The medium-bodied palate is excellent, balanced with fine tannins and a sense of elegance towards the finish, demonstrating very assiduous winemaking. Excellent.
