Le Macchiole has been part of the Bolgheri story since the early 1980s, when Eugenio Campolmi and Cinzia Merli decided to bet on this corner of Tuscany. Back then, Bolgheri was still finding its place on the wine map, and their vision helped shape what the region is known for today — wines with personality, depth, and a style that feels both modern and rooted in tradition. Now it’s Cinzia who runs the estate, joined by her sons Elia and Mattia, and a close-knit team that works more like a family than a company. They push each other forward, always curious, always ready to try something new, but never losing sight of the original spirit that started it all.
What makes Le Macchiole special is how closely their wines are tied to the vineyards. They’ve built a patchwork of small plots — about 35 hectares in total — spread across Bolgheri, each with its own quirks and character. Put them together, and you get the complexity and balance that define their style year after year. From the very beginning, the estate has put nature at the center, treating the land with respect, moving fully to organic farming, and fine-tuning everything down to the smallest detail. Harvesting is by hand, grapes are double-checked before fermentation, and nothing gets rushed or compromised. It’s all about letting the raw material shine.
Over the years, the style of Le Macchiole has become sharper and more defined — leaning into finesse, clarity, and authenticity. It’s a winery with history, but it never stands still, constantly adapting while staying true to its roots.
At Lambier Wines, you’ll find four of their icons: Messorio, Scrio, Paleo Rosso, and Bolgheri Rosso — each a different take on what Bolgheri can be, and each carrying that same thread of honesty and precision that makes Le Macchiole one of the benchmarks of Tuscany.
