The 2023 range is particularly compelling. As Louis Fourrier (Jean-Marie’s son), who is completing his studies in winemaking and increasingly involved in the domaine, notes, the house is moving toward a lighter and more elegant style — something that may surprise long-time followers of Fourrier. It is closer to the approach of modern Rousseau or Dugat, with less emphasis on power. At first, the wines may seem restrained, but with air they open up, gain volume and show greater detail compared to the previous vintage. Domaine Fourrier Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes 2023 is built on freshness and openness: red fruit, light earthiness and a touch of white pepper. Medium-bodied, with a soft texture and fine structure, it already shows an accessible character while retaining potential for further development.
Jean-Marie Fourrier cannot be placed within any single modern winemaking movement. He does not follow biodynamics or organics as a doctrine, yet remains one of the defining figures of the Côte de Nuits, with a clear focus on vineyard work. Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes 2023 comes from vines planted in 1936, now approaching 90 years of age, bringing natural concentration and depth. The wine is matured for around 12–20 months in predominantly neutral oak, with only 10–20% new barrels to preserve clarity of fruit. In the cellar, intervention is kept to a minimum: low sulfur use, no fining, no filtration. The result is a precise, transparent expression of Chambolle-Musigny, with emphasis on purity and texture.
