Domaine Bruno Clair upholds generations of precise vine selection and mindful farming. With Guyot-Poussard pruning, organic compost and cover crops, they protect soil and vine health. This thoughtful approach ensures balanced, expressive wines that reflect both terroir and tradition.
Domaine Bruno Clair Marsannay Les Longeroies 2022 is crafted from Pinot Noir grown on a 1.3677-hectare plot planted between 1924 and 1980. Located at 300m altitude on clay-limestone soils with a complex subsoil of Premeaux limestone, combe scree and Bresse marls, facing east/south-east, this site yields wines of depth and precision. The fermentation includes 30–50% whole bunches with 10–15 days maceration in wooden vats, followed by 18–20 months maturation in oak barrels, about 25% new. This Marsannay reveals notes of red berries, orange zest and petals. On the palate, it’s medium to full-bodied, with very nice finesse and elegance.
For generations, careful plant selection has been at the heart of Domaine Bruno Clair’s philosophy. Bruno’s father, Bernard, was particularly dedicated to choosing vines that, while yielding modest quantities, laid the foundation for exceptional wines — a commitment that continues to pay off, especially in challenging vintages. To keep the vines healthy, the estate adopted the Guyot-Poussard pruning method across all parcels in 2015. This approach helps maintain sap flow and prolong vine life, with slight refinements introduced by Monsieur Bourdarias to make the work more efficient and boost the plants’ reserves. While not certified organic, the domaine minimizes chemical use, reserving synthetic treatments only for the most difficult mildew years (like 2016). In favorable seasons, they rely solely on natural methods and keep copper use to a minimum. Bruno has always enriched the vineyards with organic manure, essential for nurturing soil life, and since the 1990s stopped using chemical weedkillers. Recognizing that too much tilling can be as harmful as overusing herbicides, they’ve moved away from ploughing between rows. Instead, cover crops are sown each autumn — mainly legumes and cereals — improving organic matter, enhancing water retention through root channels, and protecting the soil from erosion. Marsannay Les Longeroies 2022 perfectly reflects this thoughtful vineyard work. It bursts with bright red berry fruit, touches of orange zest and floral nuances, leading into a chalky, precise palate that promises elegant aging — a testament to both meticulous farming and terroir.
